 Understanding Electrophoretic Displays: Transient Current Characteristics of Dispersed Charges in a Non-Polar Medium Yoocharn Jeon, Pavel Kornilovitch, Patricia Beck, Zhang-Lin Zhou, Richard Henze, Tim Koch HP Laboratories HPL-2010-112 e-paper, reflective displays, electrophoretic, charge, non-polar, experiments, modeling, transient current Transient currents of reverse micelles in a non-polar solvent from voltage step stimuli were studied to investigate the electrophoretic behavior of the charges. It showed various time-dependent transients depending on the applied voltage and the charge content. A one-dimensional drift-diffusion model could reproduce the behaviors for various conditions. Influence of surfactant structure on reverse micelle size and charge for nonpolar electrophoretic inks.

Electrophoretic inks, which are suspensions of colorant particles that are controllably concentrated and dispersed by applied electric fields, are the leading commercial technology for high-quality reflective displays. Extending the state of the art for high-fidelity color in these displays requires improved understanding and control of the colloidal systems. In these inks, reverse micelles in ...

Charge transport and current in non-polar liquids.

Surfactant molecules in a non-polar liquid form charged and uncharged inverse micelles. When a potential difference is applied over the mixture, the charged inverse micelles drift towards the electrode with the opposite polarity. The motion of charges is associated with a transient current, which can be measured in an external circuit. In this paper, transient currents and steady state charge d...

Synthesis and Application of Carbon–Iron Oxide Microspheres’ Black Pigments in Electrophoretic Displays

Carbon-iron oxide microspheres' black pigments (CIOMBs) had been prepared via ultrasonic spray pyrolysis of aqueous solutions containing ferrous chloride and glucose. Due to the presence of carbon, CIOMBs not only exhibited remarkably acid resistance, but also could be well dispersed in both polar solvents and nonpolar solvent. Finally, dispersions of hollow CIOMBs in tetrachloroethylene had su...

AC Electrophoresis; Deposition of Ceramic Nanaoparticles on In-plane Electrodes at Low Frequencies (RESEARCH NOTE)

Deposition of ceramic nanoparticles (dispersed in a non-aqueous suspension) on in-plane electrodes and under the influence of AC electric fields in the frequency range of 0.01 Hz - 10 kHz is investigated. Analysis of the particle response to the applied field is a difficult task due to the mutual effect of electric- and hydrodynamic force which are present in the system. In this work, however, ...
